This group plans to visit urban areas for a walk, stopping frequently to learn about the history of the city/town.
The walk leader(s) will research the area and then lead a walk picking out interesting buildings etc with facts, on the way.
The walks are likely to be up to 2 hours long, so for the longer walks there will be a brief refreshment break (to buy in a café) for drinks and snacks.
If you are interested in joining this group to receive emails about the proposed walk please let Jennifer or Eve know using the contacts above.
A certain level of mobility will be required – for walking, and for standing for 5-10 minutes. Information will be provided after the walk leaders' recce as to the steps, uneven surfaces etc. so you can decide if it will be suitable for you.
Bad weather eg excessive rain/heat/wind for the walk area, will cause the trip to be cancelled/postponed.
The nature of the walk is such, that each group walk will be limited to 10 members including 2 walk ‘leaders’. (Limitations apply so everyone can hear and we don't block any walkways.)
First come, first served.
There is a possibility a walk could be repeated, if more than 8 members are interested in any particular walk.
Travel to the urban area will be by train (or by bus). We will travel together or arrange to meet there at a set time. A walk leader will return by train after the walk for those who wish to accompany them, but members can choose when they want to return home on their own.
The first walk is planned for Friday 3 October 2026 to Southampton
